- The 1948 Genocide Convention codified for the first time the crime of genocide in international law.
- To date, 153 states have ratified the Convention.
- The theme of this year is “A Living Force in World Society: The Legacy of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide”.
