The International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) is observed every year on October 1 to raise awareness about issues affecting elderly such as senescence and elder abuse.
The day also aims to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.
The theme for this year is “Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions”.
The International Day of Older Persons was instituted by UN General Assembly (UNGA) by adopting resolution in December 1990.
