It aims to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in March 2022 passed a resolution to mark this day.
The year 2020 was declared as International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) by the United Nations (UN).
However, the IYPH was extended till 1 July 2021 to complete the pending activities, which were severely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
