- It was established in 2012 to celebrate the changing role in modern healthcare of medical imaging.
- It is organised by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT).
- International Day of Radiology (IDOR) celebration is a week-long celebration as National Radiologic Technology Week from 3 November to 9 November 2019.
- The 8th of November is also the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen in 1895.
- 2019 theme is Sports Imaging.
