- During the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in 1995 in Beijing, the UN suggested the creation of the International Day of Rural Women
- The UN declared this day on December 18, 2007.
- The theme for 2022 is “Rural Women, key for a world free from hunger and poverty”.
