The International Day of the Disappeared is a day created to draw attention to the fate of individuals imprisoned at places and under poor conditions unknown to their relatives and/or legal representatives.
It is observed on August 30 of each year.
The day was established by the UN General Assembly on December 21, 2010.
The day also allows states to consider the fulfilment of their obligations under the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (the Convention).
