- This day commemorates the 1953 summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal.
- Even Tenzing Norgay was successful only on his 7th attempt.
- The feat was finally achieved by the duo Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, on Tenzing's birthday, 29th May 1953.
- This Day came into existence in 2008, when Edmund Hillary died.
- Sagarmatha as the Nepalis call Everest was named after Sir George Everest, the first land surveyor of British India.
- In Tibetan, the name is Chomolungma or holy mother.
