- There are 20 different species of Gibbons and they are endemic to the tropical and subtropical rainforests of South Asia.
- India’s only ape species, the Western Hoolock gibbon is listed as endangered in IUCN red list.
- Currently there are less than 3,000 gibbons in India, and they are usually seen in North Eastern States.
