- On the occasion of the International Girl Child Day the Ministry of Women and Child Development and UNICEF together organized a panel discussion on The Role of Sports in the Empowerment of Girls in New Delhi.
- The Panel discussion was held on the occasion of International Girl Child Day as part of the celebration of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week- The Daughters of New India”
- Discussion panel is comprising of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Sachin Tendulkar, Indian Women’s cricket team captain Mitali Raj and other eminent personalities.
- Since 2012, 11th October has been marked as the International Girl Child Day to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
- UNICEF observes the day to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face before, during, and after crises.
- The Ministry of Women and Child Development will be celebrating the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week from 9th to 14th October, 2017.
- The week is being celebrated in view of the International Girl Child Day on 11th October, 2017. The theme of the program will be "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week- The Daughters of New India".
