  • In 1973, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) classified jaguars as an endangered species.
  • The date, November 29, was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Liso, a jaguar rehabilitated by the Belize Zoo, in Central America.
