In 1973, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) classified jaguars as an endangered species.
The date, November 29, was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Liso, a jaguar rehabilitated by the Belize Zoo, in Central America.
