- This day is celebrated to recognise the work of midwives and raise awareness about the status of midwives for the essential care they provide to mothers and their new borns.
- International Day of the Midwife was established by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) in 1992.
- This year is also the ICM’s centennial.
- So to celebrate this, this year’s theme is 100 years of progress.
