- International Mountain Day has been observed every year on 11 December, designated by the United Nations General Assembly since
- It aims to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.
- The theme for the year 2017 is “Mountain under Pressure: climate, hunger, migration”.
- This year, the theme is also linked to the Mountain Partnership Global Meeting, to be held on 11-13 December at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
