International Red Panda Day – 18 September

  • It is celebrated on third Saturday of September every year.
  • The day was launched by the Red Panda Network in 2010.
  • Almost 50% of the red panda’s habitat is in the Eastern Himalayas.
  • It is native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China.
  • It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
  • These animals spend most of their lives in trees and even sleep aloft.
  • The loss of nesting trees and bamboo is causing a decline in red panda populations.
