- This day is celebrated to create awareness about the discrimination and struggles faced by sex workers globally.
- It also aims to raise awareness of the rights of the sex workers and to combat stigma and discrimination.
- Since 1976 this day has been commemorated to show respect for the most abused, victimised and valuable section of the society.
- The theme of this year is "Access to Justice".
