- The purpose of observing this is to create awareness among the people to conserve tigers and save their natural habitat.
- Asia was home to 100,000 tigers a century ago.
- Less than 4,000 tigers remain in the wild as of today.
- To double that amount by 2022 is one of the objectives for the day.
- This year's theme is “India launches Project Tiger to revive the tiger population”.
