International Translation Day – 30 September

  • The second International Translation Day was observed by United Nations on 30 September 2018.
  • The day recognizes the contribution of unsung heroes behind international diplomacy who work as language professionals to facilitate dialogue and contribute to development and strengthens world peace and security.
  • The International Translation Day was instituted by UN General Assembly (UNGA) in May 2017 by adopting a resolution.
  • The date 30 September was chosen to celebrate feast of Bible translator St Jerome, who is considered as patron saint of translators.
