- The International Weightlifting Federation has suspended 9 countries from participating in Weightlifting competitions for a period of one year, followed by the positive results from retesting of anti-doping samples taken during the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
- The countries are Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Turkey, and Ukraine.
- Owing to this ban, these 9 countries have lost their chance to participate in upcoming World Weightlifting Championship to be held at California.
- China has lost its chance to participate on 2018 Asian Weightlifting Competition. It is notable that Russia has already been banned from Weightlifting category in 2016 Rio Olympics.
