- This year’s theme is “Sustainable Solutions for Widows Financial Independence”.
- The day was established by The Loomba Foundation to raise awareness about the issue of widowhood.
- It was on this day in 1954 that Pushpa Wati Loomba, mother of Lord Loomba, became a widow.
- It has been observed since 2011 by the United Nations.
