- Olympic medallists MC Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu and Gagan Narang were among 10 eminent sportspersons elected as members of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Athletes Commission.
- Olympic Medallist Mary Kom was unanimously elected as the Chairperson of this commission.
- While the Table Tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the body.
- Under the new constitution of the Indian Olympic Association, the athletes commission is to have equal representation of male and female members.
- The immediate task of the Athletes Commission would be to identify eight Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) who would then be voting members of the IOA’s General Assembly.
- The Indian Olympic Association is the body responsible for selecting the athletes to represent India at the Olympic Games, Asian Games, and other international athletic games.
