- The legislative elections were held in Israel in September to elect the 120 members of the twenty-second Knesset (Israel Parliament).
- After the election the incumbent Prime Minister took charge to form the government in Israel.
- However, he has to prove his majority in the Knesset.
- Following the previous elections in April, incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition, the first such failure in Israeli history.
- This election marked the first time that the Knesset voted to dissolve itself before a government had been formed.
