- The US Air Force has successfully tested an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
- The nuclear-capable Minuteman III missile used in the test was equipped with a test re-entry vehicle.
- It travelled approximately 4,200 miles (6,750km).
- It was the first US missile fitted with Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs).
- This MIRVs enable it to carry up to three different warheads that can strike independent targets.
