Joint theatre commands of tri-services would be set up to enhance coordination among armed forces.
It is a concept which seeks to integrate the capabilities of the three services - army, air force and navy.
It aims to optimally utilise their resources for wars and operations.
The Theatre Commander will be a three-star general, drawn from any of the three services, depending on the function assigned.
At present, there are two joint services commands in India, the first one is Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and the second, being Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
ANC is considered to be the only one of its kind in the country that amalgamates the army, navy and air force.
Set up in 2001, ANC is based in Port Blair.
SFC takes care of the nuclear assets of India and is not related to any specific theatre of war.
