Justice Dipak Misra to be next Chief Justice of India

• Justice Dipak Misra will take over Justice Jagdish Singh Khekar as the next Chief Justice of India, the Law Ministry announced. Khekar will be retiring on August 27.
• As per the provisions of the law,Union Law Ministry had asked the present Chief Justice Khekar to recommend for the appointment of next Chief Justice of India.
• The outgoing CJI had recommended the name of Misra, the next senior-most judge in the apex court, as his successor.
• The government cleared the appointment of Justice Dipak Misra as the next Chief Justice of India.
• Justice Misra will have a tenure of nearly 14 months as the Chief Justice of India.The 63-year-old Justice Misra will be the 45th Chief Justice of India.
• Justice Misra is part of benches of Supreme Court that handles constitutionally important cases like Ayodhya Case, Cauvery dispute, BCCI reforms and Panama Papers scandal.
• Justice Misra joined as an advocate on February 14, 1977 and practiced in constitutional, civil, criminal, revenue, service and sales tax matters in the Orissa High Court and the Service Tribunal. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Orissa High Court on January 17, 1996. He was transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court on March 3, 1997. Misra has served as Chief Justice in Patna High Court and Delhi High Court. He was elevated as a Supreme Court Judge on October 10, 2011.
