- It is India’s First 700 MWe (megawatt electric) and indigenously developed Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR).
- The first two units of Kakrapar power plant were based on Canadian technology.
- It is located at Tapi district in Gujarat.
- Till now, the biggest indigenously developed reactor was of 540 MWe PHWR in Tarapur, Maharashtra.
- It is India’s 23rd nuclear power reactor that is completely designed and built by India.
- The reactor uses natural Uranium as the fuel and Heavy water as moderator.
- India's nuclear reactors are majorly PHWR.
