- The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu jointly inaugurated the Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL).
- With this, Kerala has become the first state in the country to have four international airports.
- The other 3 airports were at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
