  • The Supreme Court has allowed 15 dissident MLAs to opt out of current assembly session.
  • It implies that they can defy a “party whip” without fear of disqualification for defection under Clause 2 (b) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
Party Whip
  • A whip is a written order that party members be present for an important vote, or that they vote only in a particular way.
  • Political parties appoint a senior member from among their House contingents to issue ‘whips’ who is called as Chief Whip.
