- The Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA) began excavations in Keeladi, Konthagai, and Agaram in Sivagangai district.
- The seventh phase was conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology
- Keeladi is an urban settlement that is at least 2,600 years old.
- Ring wells were the highlight of the seventh phase of this excavation.
- Ring wells may have been used as soak pits or draw wells.
- This is the first time that the Tamil Nadu State Archaeology Department has left the quadrants open without filling it with soil after the excavation ended as it plans to establish an open site museum.
- When the museum is established then it would be a first-of-its-kind to be established in Tamil Nadu.
- the image of a fish imprinted on a ring well and the engraved coins found here strengthened the theory that the people who lived here had commercial transactions with other parts of the country, namely north India.
