Kumbakonam Municipality’s waste recycling model

- The Kumbakonam Municipality (KM), a premier municipal body in Thanjavur district, has become a model for recycling of solid wastes.
- With two lakh tonnes of solid wastes collected over a period of years sent for recycling, KM has become the first in the country to do so.
- This model has been included as a model for emulation in the Swachh Bharat scheme.
- A private company, ‘Zigma Global Environ Solutions’, was employed to recycle the solid wastes.
