- Recently, researchers found a new point-of-care test to be highly sensitive for rapid diagnosis of Kyasanur forest disease.
- The point-of-care tests has been developed by ICMR-National Institute of Virology.
- It will be beneficial to diagnose KFD which is also called as monkey fever.
- The disease is tick-borne viral haemorrhagic fever which is endemic to South-western part of India.
- It is caused by a virus from family Flaviviridae.
- Virus is transmitted to humans through bite of infected hard ticks.
