- The Cabinet of United Arab Emirates (UAE) has approved the issuance of law on Equal Wages and Salaries for men and women.
- The new law will ensure equal pay for men and women working in the country.
- The approval of the law comes in line with the government’s objective to ensure the protection of women's rights and support their role in the national development process.
- Since past few years, the UAE Government has attempted to narrow the gender gap in the nation through consolidated efforts including the establishment of the UAE Council for Gender Balance in 2015.
- The government also launched the world's first Gender Balance Guide in September 2017.
- The guide was prepared by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates Gender Balance Council (2017).
- The guide lays down a road-map for UAE and its organisations to harness the untapped potential of women.
