  • The government amended a 60-Year-Old Rule to extend the tenure of current Cabinet Secretary.
  • A cabinet secretary is appointed for a fixed tenure of two years.
  • The government can give extension in service provided the total tenure does not exceed four years.
  • As per the modified rules an additional three months of tenure has been given to Pradeep Kumar Sinha.
  • The current Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha has thus become the longest-serving bureaucrat in the post in the country’s history.
