Losar Festival celebrated in Ladakh

  • The traditional festival of Losar was celebrated in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir to mark the beginning of New Year in this Himalayan region.
  • Losar is a community-based socio-religious festival celebrated by the Buddhists of Ladakh, which has 19 major monasteries celebrating 18 monastic festivals every year. Losar is Tibetan word for ‘new year’.
  • It is celebrated from the first day of the 11th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar which is considered to be the most important festival of the region Ladakh/Tibet.
