The traditional festival of Losar was celebrated in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir to mark the beginning of New Year in this Himalayan region.
Losar is a community-based socio-religious festival celebrated by the Buddhists of Ladakh, which has 19 major monasteries celebrating 18 monastic festivals every year. Losar is Tibetan word for ‘new year’.
It is celebrated from the first day of the 11th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar which is considered to be the most important festival of the region Ladakh/Tibet.
