- He had served as Vice-Chancellor of Anna University and was Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
- He had also served as Chief Science Officer in the United Nations in New York.
- He was honoured with Padma Shri award.
- Chief Minister Stalin described Mr Anandakrishnan as the hero behind the DMK government’s decision to scrap entrance examinations for higher education earlier.
