On August 28, the Supreme Court collegium led by Chief Justice of India consisting of five senior-most judges recommended the transfer of Madras High Court Chief Justice VK Tahilramani to the Meghalaya High Court.
The Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Ajay Kumar Mittal has been posted in her place.
After that, Justice Tahilramani has submitted her resignation to the President.
She became a judge of Bombay High Court in 2001.
She was elevated as Chief Justice of Madras High Court in August 2018 and was due to retire from service in October 2020.
She was the 3rd Women Chief Justice of Madras High Court after Kanta Kumari Bhatnagar (1992/93) and Indira Banerjee (2017/18).
