  • As per a recent study conducted by Zoological Survey of India, this species of squirrel may become extinct.
  • This is the first of its kind study conducted by the Zoological Survey of India.
  • In India, this species is spotted at higher numbers at the Kaziranga National Park in the state of Assam and parts of North-East India.
  • They are diurnal, herbivorous and arboreal.
  • Malayan giant squirrel or the black giant squirrel is one of the largest tree squirrels in the world.
  • India is home to three giant squirrel species namely Grizzled Giant Squirrel, Indian Giant Squirrel and the Malayan Giant Squirrel.
