Supreme Court struck down the Maharashtra law granting quota to the Maratha community in admissions and government jobs, by terming it "unconstitutional".
The Maharashtra Government announced that the Maratha Community can now avail benefits under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.
Earlier, the Maratha Community recognized as the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category was not eligible for the availing the 10 per cent EWS quota due to the prevalence of Maratha reservation in the state.
