- India has been elected to the intergovernmental committee of UNESCO's 2003 convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
- The Intergovernmental Committee of 2003 Convention includes 24 members.
- India will be a member for a period of 2022-2026.
- In past, India has been a member of ICH Committee for two times viz., during 2006-2010 and 2014-2018.
- The main functions of “Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage” include
- Promoting the objectives of the convention
- Providing directions on best practices and
- Recommending on measures to safeguard intangible cultural heritage.
