- Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day observed on May 28.
- It highlights the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
- It was initiated by the German-based NGO, WASH United in 2014.
- The day offers an opportunity to actively advocate for the integration of MHM into global, national and local policies and programmes.
- Since 1947, Japan’s Labour Laws provide women with menstrual leaves.
- On the occasion of this day, Tamil Nadu government has installed Rs.5 sanitary napkin vending machines at Government Multi Super Speciality hospital in Chennai.
