Microplastics in plant leaves

April 16 , 2025 4 days 43 0
  • Plant leaves absorbed microplastics and nano plastics directly from the air.
  • The particles subsequently entering the food chain through herbivores and crops consumed by humans.
  • The Microplastics are defined as plastic particles measuring up to 5 millimetres in diameter, while Nano plastics are even smaller, less than 1,000 nanometres.
  • Stomata are small pores formed by specialised cells.
  • The cuticle is a protective membrane coated in wax, which makes it particularly conducive to absorbing microplastics.
