Missing An-32 Aircraft

  • On June 3, an AN-32 transport aircraft which departed from Jorhat, Assam towards Arunachal Pradesh with 13 Indians went missing shortly after it took off.
  • The Indian Air Force and other search teams are going through pictures and data sent by Earth Observation (EO) satellites under COSPAS-SARSAT to find missing aircraft.
  • It is an international satellite-based search and rescue system.
  • It is used to detect and locate emergency beacons carried by ships, aircraft, or individuals using a network of satellites
