- Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) is the coordinating agency.
- Under this, the LSSC will assist the cobbler community in India for leather-based services, providing better working conditions.
- LSSC also coordinates the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).
- PMKVY encourages skill development to boost employability and productivity of youth by incentivizing skill training.
- India’s leather sector is the second largest leather garment and footwear producer globally.
- It contributes 13% to the total leather production, globally.
- It employs over 2.5 million people in India.
