India's Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) for the year 2018-20 was at 97.
In 2014-16, the MMR was 130, which has seen a steady decline since then.
Maternal mortality in a region is a measure of the reproductive health of women in the area.
It is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births.
Among the states, Assam recorded the highest MMR at 195 followed by Madhya Pradesh (173) and Uttar Pradesh (167).
Kerala has the lowest Maternal Mortality Ratio (19), and is followed by Maharashtra at 33 and Telangana at 43.
Tamilnadu stands at Fourth (54).
