MP Disqualification from Lok Sabha

- The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.
- He was convicted him and three others on charges of attempting to murder case and sentenced all the three to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years.
- Now, the Kerala high court rejected his plea to suspend his conviction in an attempt to murder case.
- Under Section 8(3) of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951, a sitting legislator who is convicted for an offence and sentenced to a punishment of two or more years stands disqualified from the date of conviction.
- Also, for a further period of six years ban unless they can get the order of conviction suspended.
