Multidimensional Poverty Index 2019

  • The 2019 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) has been released.
  • It states that India has lifted 271 million people out of poverty between 2006 and 2016.
  • Jharkhand has shown highest progress in India.
  • It reduced the incidence of multidimensional poverty from 74.9% in 2005-06 to 46.5% in 2015-16.
