- Na Muthuswamy, the famous playwright and founder of the prominent theatre group, Koothu-P-Pattarai, passed away in Chennai.
- He died on 24 October 2018 at the age of 82.
- Muthuswamy, born in Tanjai, founded Koothu-p-pattarai in 1977 with a focus on training actors for his plays.
- Considered the first modern Tamil playwright, he gained prominence after staging the play, “Kaalam Kaalamaga”.
- Muthuswamy was awarded the Padma Shri in 2012 and the Sangit Natak Akademi Award in 1999.
- Between 2000 and 2007, Koothu-p-pattarai was identified by UNESCO as one among the five learning centres for theatre.
