- Nagaland is celebrating its 59th Statehood Day on 1 December 2021.
- Nagaland was granted statehood on December 1, 1963, with Kohima being declared its capital.
- Prior to this, Naga leaders and the central government reached an agreement to create a separate region of the Naga Hills in 1957.
- The State of Nagaland Act of 1962, was thus enacted by the Parliament to give Nagaland statehood.
- Nagaland is the first state in the northeast to be bifurcated from Assam as the 16th State of the Indian Union.
