- On this day in 1927, the first-ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under the Indian Broadcasting Company.
- In India, radio broadcasting began during the British rule in 1923 under the imitative of the Radio Club of Bombay.
- Later it was changed to All India Radio (AIR) in 1936 and Akashwani in 1957.
- It is owned by Prasar Bharati, India’s largest public broadcasting agency.
