- Initiated by the Ministry of Healthy and Family Welfare, National Dengue Day is observed annually on May 16.
- It aims to raise awareness about the viral disease dengue and its preventive measures.
- In India, Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme is the nodal centre for the surveillance and prevention of dengue.
- In 2016, the Government of India has launched a mobile app “India Fights Dengue”.
- In 2017, maximum numbers of dengue cases were reported from Tamil Nadu.
- Dengue is caused due to the dengue virus – DENV, 1-4 serotype, which is transmitted by the bite of female Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus).
